Day Trippin'

We woke up this morning and decided to take a little day trip somewhere new. Yes, its a church day but sometimes we just need a day together doing something new and different. So, we all loaded up in the van and headed out. Since we have never been to Morrison, Oklahoma, it seemed like a good idea to head out there. After all its only an hour away. The GPS app on my phone took us out HWY 412. I do not travel enough to know that 412 is a toll road. My map app didn't mention a toll. So as we approached the toll I realized that I did not have any change. So we took the last free exit and let the map recalculate. We ended up on HWY 64. It took us through Cleveland and back around to the turnpike. This time I had to get onto the turnpike. So we went through our change and managed to get enough to get through.

We finally arrived in Morrison and of course had to get out to take a picture with the sign.
Then we drove around and looked the town. Not much to it of course. I figured it would be small so it was no surprise. It was still kind of neat to go to a town that bears our last name.
Downtown Morrison, Ok

Morrison, OK had this really neat box outside their thrift store. I really like this idea and would like to implement something like this here.

The kids wanted to get out and see something so we decided to go to Pawnee because it was on the same exit. We arrived in Pawnee and drove around for a bit. Lots of really cool old buildings and cool shops. Nothing open because its a Sunday, but still fun to see. We were all pretty hungry at this point so we decided to stop for lunch. There was a Simple Simons so we decided to eat there. A small pizza place but nice and clean and thats what matters.

Finished lunch and hit the road. Back onto HWY 64 took us around to HWY 412 again. We weren't on the highway very long before I felt like something was off. Right around the time I said something, we blew a tire. Our road trips usually end in some kind of car trouble. Maybe that's a sign we shouldn't take them anymore. It took us awhile to find the spare as we hadn't used it yet. Thankfully the van comes with a jack. The tire was shredded. No way to fix. Mike got the spare out and we quickly realized that it wasn't full of air. We put it on anyway and I called for help. Mikes dad and wife were willing to rescue us. They came out of their way to bring us an air pump. It took them a little over an hour to get to us. While we waited we talked movies, superheroes and played "I'm going to California". It was fun. They arrived and we filled the spare. Got on the road. Took longer than I wanted to get home but we got back safely.

The day didn't go quite as expected. Were now out having to buy a new tire and we've learned we need to better prepare when going on a day trip. However, it was nice to have a day just us. To talk and listen to music and play games. I will miss these days when they're gone. The time is sure flying by. Life is certainly an adventure.
